Terms & Conditions

Last updated 4 October 2026

These terms apply to membership of the Ethiopian Economics Association (EEA, "we", "us") and to the use of this membership platform at membership.eea-et.org. By creating an account, joining or renewing, you agree to them. Please read them together with our Privacy Policy.

1. Membership

Membership is open to individuals and institutions that meet the requirements of the Association's bylaws for each membership level: Full, Associate, Student and Institutional. The requirements and fees for each level are shown on the join page. The Association may ask for documents to confirm your eligibility and may decline or cancel a membership that does not meet the requirements.

2. Your account

  • Give accurate, complete information and keep it up to date.
  • Each account is for one person or one institution. Do not share your password; you are responsible for what happens under your account.
  • Once you have completed your details, some of them are locked. To change them, send an update request from your dashboard.

3. Fees and payments

  • Membership fees are set by the Association for each level and are shown before you pay. A one-time registration fee applies to new members.
  • You can pay online through our payment provider, Chapa, or by bank transfer against an invoice. Your membership starts once your payment is confirmed; bank transfers are confirmed by the Association's office.
  • All payments are final and non-refundable. This includes membership fees, registration fees and back dues, including when a membership is cancelled, suspended or not used. If you were charged twice for the same membership, or charged by mistake, contact us and we will correct it.
  • The Association may change its fees. A change applies from your next renewal, not to a period you have already paid for.

4. Renewal and lapsed membership

Membership runs for the period you paid for and is renewed by paying the renewal fee before it expires. If your membership has lapsed for more than a year, you can either restore it by paying the missed years, at the fees that applied in those years, and keep your original join date, or start a new membership from the date you pay. If you believe you have already paid for a year we show as unpaid, contact info@eea-et.org with your receipt and we will check our records.

5. Membership ID card and certificate

Your digital ID card or institutional certificate confirms your membership only while it is current. It remains the property of the Association. Do not alter it or use it to misrepresent your membership; the QR code on it always shows its current status.

6. Member resources

The Statistical Database, the resource library and other members-only materials are provided for your own research, study and professional use. Do not share files, logins or download links with non-members, or republish members-only material without the Association's written permission. Please cite the Association as the source when you use its data.

7. Community conduct

Treat other members with respect. Do not post or send content that is abusive, harassing, discriminatory, misleading, unlawful or spam, or that infringes someone else's rights. The Association may remove content and warn, suspend or remove members who break these rules.

8. Communications

As a member, you will receive messages about your membership, renewals, payments, events and the Association's activities by email, SMS and on the platform. These may be sent through service providers such as Ethio Telecom and bulk email services. We may also send you questionnaires, surveys and messages on behalf of our partners; you can stop partner messages at any time by writing to info@eea-et.org.

9. Photos and media

Photos and videos taken at Association events may be published on our websites, social media and publications, as described in our Privacy Policy. If you would rather not appear, let the photographer or the office know.

10. Research Assistant

The Research Assistant uses artificial intelligence to answer questions from the Association's publications. Its answers can contain mistakes. Check the cited sources before relying on or quoting an answer.

11. Nominations and elections

Nominations and elections for the Association's offices follow its bylaws. Only eligible members may take part, and the Association decides questions about eligibility.

12. Suspension and cancellation

You may stop your membership at any time by not renewing it or by asking us to close your account; fees already paid are not refunded. The Association may suspend or cancel a membership for breach of these terms, false information or conduct that harms the Association or its members.

13. Availability and liability

We work to keep the platform available and accurate, but we cannot promise that it will always be available or free of errors. To the extent the law allows, the Association is not liable for indirect losses arising from the use of the platform or its content.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed. Important changes will be announced to members, and the terms in force when you renew apply to your renewed membership.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
